Newsletter - July 2003
Welcome to July's newsletter. As we have so much news this month the newsletter has been sent to everyone who has attended a workshop over the last year. If you haven't been down for a while and want to get involved again, read on!
WorkshopsDuring July and August there will be no organized workshop; partly to allow the organizers to take a break, and because so many people are away or on holiday. Instead, we meet informally on Parker's Piece by the fire station every Sunday at around 6 p.m. (weather permitting). No workshop equipment is available but there's usually something to borrow from other jugglers! Workshops will restart indoors on Sunday 7th September at the usual time - that's 5p.m. for beginners, 6-8p.m. for everyone else - at Cambridge Drama Centre.
Performance projectWe will be running a project during the autumn to develop a circus show to be performed at the Drama Centre on Saturday 29th November. The project is free to attend and open to all - you don't need any performance experience or even a high level of skill - we will teach you all you need to know! The show will be devised by the cast, directed by Charlie Hull and Ali Dando, and will feature music by local band Kargo Cult.
If you want to be involved - as a performer, by helping out with set-making, props or costumes, by helping to distribute publicity or working backstage please let us know as soon as possible. Rehearsals will run every Sunday from September to November from 10a.m. to 4p.m.. It's a great way to improve your skills, gain confidence and have fun! Contact us for more information, the first rehearsal is on the 7th September.
We're also looking for sponsorship for the project - if you know any local company that would care to sponsor us in return for publicity on the poster or program, or even in return for a circus workshop or performance - let us know!
The show itself will be at 2 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. on the 29th November at the Drama Centre. Tickets are £6.50 / £4.50 (concessions) and are available from the box office at the Junction, tel. (01223) 511 511. Places are limited so book early!
Help us run the Community CircusHave you ever wondered who organizes CCC, or where the equipment comes from, or whether anything could be changed or improved? CCC is run by a voluntary management committee and a part-time administrator (currently me - Charlie) and we're shortly going to hold informal elections for a new committee, probably in September.
You can join the committee even if you're only a beginner juggler, you can even join if you're under 18 - we usually meet in someone's house every couple of months for an informal chat.
Circus events during the summer and autumnMore info on circus events at http://www.jugglingdb.com/events . There will also probably be a large tented circus show on Midsummer Common this autumn, we'll try and arrange a group trip!
If you hear about any other circus-related events, please do let us know and we'll pass the word round. If you would like to go to an event and would like to share a car, borrow camping equipment, or even just arrange to meet a familiar face, email the Community Circus list (details at www.yahoogroups.com/camcircus ) .
