Who are we?

We're a band that meet once a week to perform a variety of musics from Brazil, Cuba and elsewhere.  We have a workshop format which means that newcomers are very welcome and will be able to pick up the music quickly.

Occasionally we also arrange and attend workshops led by samba luminaries such as Sam Alexander (who brought Maracatu to Britain), Dave Willetts (musical director of the London School of Samba) and Pat Seldon (from Inner Sense).

We meet every Wednesday from 7.30-9.30pm at the Bath House, Gwydir St, Cambridge.  (off Mill Road, near the railway bridge)

New members wanted!

If you're interested in learning samba drumming, just turn up to one of our workshops, or ring Jane on (01223 292977) or Paul on (01223 505587) for details.

What do we sound like?

We play quite a variety of Brazilian/Cuban/Latin/crossover rhythms, including the following (the ones underlined link to short extracts in MP3 format -- you'll need a suitable player such as winamp; alternative players can be found here)

  • Batucada (Samba)
  • Samba Reggaes
  • Maracatu
  • Congas from Santiago and Havana
  • Ijexa
  • ...
