Police turn back livestock truck!

28th April 1995

Sussex police today turned back a lorry taking live animals for export through Shoreham today, after telling the the exporters, International Traders Ferry (ITF) that only four exports per fortnight would be allowed due to the shortage of police available for the demonstrations.

ITF had already taken four convoys through this week, and so the police turned back the truck to prevent a breach of the peace.

"This is a substantial victory for us" said John White, spokesman for the Campaign Aginst Live Freight (CALF).

ITF is said to be considering taking Sussex police to the High Court over the matter.
